A magnetic golf towel carries a disc sewn into one corner so it snaps to any steel surface on a buggy, trolley or golf cart frame. Clean a club, let go, and it returns to the same place. It is the fastest attachment there is, and the only one that needs no threading, no clipping and no free hand.

HOW IT WORKS

Why the grade is the whole story

Neodymium magnets are graded N35 to N52. The number is the maximum energy product, which in practice is how hard the disc pulls for its size. N52 is the strongest commercially available grade, and on a towel that difference is not academic: a weak magnet lets go the first time the trolley hits a ridge, and you finish the round with a muddy towel.

Pull force of 48kg sounds enormous for a piece of fabric, and that is the point. The towel is never carrying 48kg. It is carrying its own weight plus whatever water it has absorbed, through repeated vibration, on a surface that is often wet. Overspecify the disc and it simply never fails.

WHAT IT STICKS TO

Steel, not aluminium

Magnets attach to ferromagnetic surfaces: steel bag rails, buggy frames, trolley uprights, the metal on a golf cart. They do not attach to aluminium, carbon or most modern stand bag hardware, and that is the single thing worth checking before you buy. Run a fridge magnet along the frame you intend to use. If it grabs, the towel will.

The disc poses no risk to the heads of your clubs or the shafts used normally on course. Keep it away from a putter face as a precaution and away from card readers and phones, the same as any strong magnet.

The speed argument

The routine that keeps clubs clean is the one that costs nothing to repeat. Wipe the face, drop the towel, walk on. Magnetic towels are faster than any other attachment because the towel is always to hand: no threading, no unclipping, no reaching round the bag. Clean a club, let go, and the towel snaps back to the same spot on the frame, ready for the next club.

If you walk with a stand bag and there is no steel to attach to, a centre-slit towel through a D-ring is the more reliable answer. If you ride some weeks and walk others, most golfers end up carrying both.

CARE

Remove the disc before washing

The disc is removable and should come out before the towel goes in the machine. Wash at 30°C with no fabric softener: softener coats microfibre and kills the absorbency you paid for. Tumble dry low or air dry. Done that way the waffle keeps its loft and the towel behaves the same in year two as it did in week one.

AGAINST A CLIP

Magnetic golf towel against a clip or carabiner

A clip or carabiner works on any golf bag and costs almost nothing, which is why most towels ship with one. The problem is motion: a clipped towel swings as you walk, catches on the bag, and unclips itself over rough ground. It is also two-handed to remove and replace, so in practice it gets used less.

A magnet is one-handed and self-locating. The towel returns to the same place on the frame every time, which is what makes cleaning clubs after every shot a habit rather than an intention. The trade is that you need steel to attach to, so a discic towel suits buggy, trolley and golf cart golfers rather than walkers with a stand bag.

What makes a good magnetic golf towel

A good magnetic golf towel does two things well. It holds where you put it, and it cleans when you need it. Plenty of golf towels manage one and not the other. Hold comes from the grade of the disc and where it is mounted. Cleaning comes from the waffle grid, which lifts dirt off a wedge or an iron in a single pass rather than smearing it across the face.

Do magnetic golf towels damage golf clubs?

No. The disc attaches to your buggy, trolley or bag frame, not to the clubs. Even in direct contact, a neodymium magnet has no effect on the steel or graphite in a golf shaft and will not affect the clubhead.

What surfaces does a discic golf towel stick to?

Any ferromagnetic surface: buggy frames, trolley tubing, cart rails and most steel bag stays. It will not stick to aluminium, carbon fibre or the fabric of a stand bag. If your setup has no steel within reach, use the included carabiner or choose a centre-slit towel instead.

Is N52 better than N42 or N35?

Yes, measurably. The grade number is the maximum energy product of the disc. N52 is the strongest grade in commercial production, so for the same magnet size it delivers noticeably more holding force than N42 or N35. That headroom is what keeps the towel attached over bumpy ground.

Can I wash a discic golf towel?

Yes. Remove the disc housing first, which unclips in seconds, then machine wash at 30 degrees. Do not use fabric softener, it coats the microfibre and destroys absorption. Tumble dry on low.

Magnetic or clip golf towel, which is better?

It depends on how you carry. A magnet is faster and returns the towel to the same spot every time, which suits buggy, trolley and push cart golfers. Will a discic golf towel work on a stand bag?

How strong is a N52 magnet?

Will the disc damage my phone or bank cards?

Keep it away from cards, hotel keys and older mechanical watches, as you would any strong magnet. Modern phones are not damaged by contact with a disc of this type, but the sensible habit is to attach the towel to the bag frame or buggy rather than storing it loose in a pocket alongside a wallet.

Can I remove the disc to wash the towel?

Yes, and you should. The disc is removable, so take it off before washing. Wash the towel at 30 degrees with no fabric softener, because softener coats the fibres and destroys the absorbency you paid for, then air dry. Refit the disc once the towel is completely dry.

Where does a discic golf towel attach on a buggy?
